Weather / What to Bring

Weather

Doha features an arid climate. It is situated in the Arabian Peninsula, and as such its climate can get quite hot. Thankfully, the weather is very pleasant in April, with warm sunny days and cool desert nights. Although you may wear short-sleeve shirts during the day, make sure you prepare for the temperature falling as the sun drops. You won't need to worry about rain, but bring a swimsuit.

Typical April weather in Doha:

Average Maximum 89F / 31C
Average Minimum 69F / 20C
Average Precipitation 0.4 in / 8.7 mm

What to Wear

Comfort and informality help define the TED experience. The dress is casual for all events. Think "creative casual" more than "business casual." For men, this means no jackets, ties or suits. Women tend to interpret "casual" more broadly, but you can avoid suits and other classic business attire.

We highly recommend comfortable shoes, as you'll be walking quite a bit, from your hotel to the workshop sessions to the evening events. Please make sure you bring closed-toed shoes for when we are in the desert, and pack a head scarf to protect from wind and sun. Don't forget a swimsuit.

We will go straight from the last session of the day into our evening events, so evening attire, per se, isn't required. (That said, some people do prefer to change into slightly more elegant clothes if time allows.)

Respecting Local Culture

Doha is very liberal and there is no dress code. You will see people jogging in shorts and tank tops. However, it is always a good idea to be respectful of the local culture. Women should not wear revealing tops or short skirts. Generally it is a good idea for men to wear pants as opposed to shorts. Short-sleeve shirts are fine, but shoulders should be kept covered.
