Plan Your TED Oxford

Weather

Oxford weather in July is generally pleasantly warm and sunny (that's how attendees of the first TEDGlobal at Oxford, in 2005, experienced it). However, climate shifts have made it less predictable. Bring a jacket, water-resistant shoes and an umbrella.

Typical July weather:

Average Maximum 72F / 22C
Average Minimum 53F / 12C
Average Precipitation 0.05 in / 0.127cm

What to Wear

Comfort and informality help define the TED experience. The dress is casual for all events. Think "creative casual" more than "business casual." For men, this means no jackets, ties or suits. Then again, you probably don't want to wear shorts either. Women tend to interpret "casual" more broadly, but you can avoid suits and other classic business attire.

We highly recommend comfortable shoes, as you'll be walking quite a bit, from your hotel to the sessions to the evening events, and most Oxford streets feature cobblestones. If you wear high heels, tuck a pair of flats or flip-flops in your bag for the end of the day. The women on the TED staff swear by that approach.

We tend to go straight from the last session of the day into our evening events, so evening attire, per se, isn't required. (That said, some people do prefer to change into slightly more elegant clothes if time allows.)

Keep in mind that the changing weather could mean chilly evenings. A lightweight, water-resistant jacket is a good idea for the colder nights.
