Plan Your TED Weather / What to Bring

Weather

Mysore's November weather is often ideal, with temperatures ranging from 63F to 80F (17C to 26.6C).

What to wear

Comfort and informality help define the TED experience. The dress is casual for all events. Think "creative casual" more than "business casual." For men, this means no jackets, ties or suits. Women tend to interpret "casual" more broadly, but you can avoid suits and other classic business attire.

For TEDIndia, we recommend light cotton tops, comfortable trousers and a light jacket. Please ensure that you also pack warm clothing, as temperatures do drop dramatically at times. If you plan to visit Delhi / Agra or any other places in North India, you should pack a warmer jacket as well.

We highly recommend comfortable shoes, as you'll be walking a fair amount, from your room to the sessions to the evening events. If you wear high heels, tuck a pair of flats in your bag for the end of the day. The women on the TED staff swear by that approach.

We tend to go straight from the last session of the day into our evening events, so evening attire per se isn't required. (That said, some people do prefer to change into slightly more elegant clothes.)

For the final evening, we’ll all have the option of wearing traditional Indian dress (which you can order on-site earlier in the week).

What to eat and drink

Water: Avoid drinking tap water while in India. Consumption of bottled water is advisable. Do not forget to check that the cap is securely sealed while buying the bottle, and remember to dispose of it properly. Avoid taking ice with your drinks unless in a place where the water is boiled and filtered. Sharing water bottles with fellow travelers may not be absolutely safe.

Food: Avoid raw fish, food kept warm for long, salads, uncooked food and ice cream from questionable sources. Food that you can peel or shell yourself is most recommended.

What to bring

In addition to the clothing listed above, you may want to pack:

  • An electrical adapter. The voltage supply at most of the hotels across India is usually 220 volts. Most of the plug-in pins in India are different from western made plug-in pins.
  • Flashlight
  • Locks for your suitcases
  • Sunscreen
  • Small sewing kit and safety pins
  • Spare glasses or contact lenses, if you wear them
