I’m Beth Viner and am incredibly excited to be leading Amex’s Community and Commerce project here at TEDActive. When I’m not gazing at the scenic views of Palm Springs, I work at IDEO- a global design and innovation consultancy, focused on creating impact through design. I will be to facilitate a conversation among attendees and participants both near and far to think about how we might use networks to create more value for the community.
We’re just beginning our week, but the conversation via the TEDActive Community and Commerce Facebook page has been full of energized comments and inspirations like, Cash Mobs and Ebay’s plans to move all local inventory to the cloud and provocations like, how can we measure the value of what’s created by a network? Inspiring words to keep in mind as we dive-in include: local, mutual, conversations, anticipatory, and authenticity.
Consider this your invitation to participate (or continue participating) in the conversation. Brian Zisk, Melissa Segall, and myself, Beth Viner- the Community and Commerce Team-, are excited to meet you. Use #ActiveCommerce to share your ideas virtually and be sure to visit our project wall in the DCC between talks starting tomorrow.
Thrilled to connect with so many TedActive folks in person this week, to exchange ideas regarding how best to create community value in a networked society, and to help share these concepts out to the world.
Can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts on these issues.
Hi,
I’d like to use as a case study the Indian Bohri Muslim community’s concept of collecting money at regular intervals to be loaned out to those in need. What’s interesting is how it operates without any pressure, obligation or complex paperwork yet is done on scale through a centralised concept-decentralised management model.
Unfortunately, I’m not going to be at Palm Springs. How do we share this?
Cheers
Yousuf
Hi Yousuf-
Love the case study. You can join the conversation here, on facebook, or using #activecommerce via your normal social media channels. Thanks for participating.
