Hi everyone. Yesterday’s lunchtime brainstorm was great. Lots of ideas flowing, and a really nice convergence of a pretty wide range of perspectives – from practicing doctors, to social responsibility experts, to entrepreneurs. Our brainstorm question was, “How might we create experiences that give people a sense of control over their health?”
We’ve clustered and synthesized our post-it notes and have surfaced a few categories that had a lot of energy. Those are:
Help people navigate health conversations
People often don’t know how to interpret information they get about their health, and they could use some help. We generated concepts for how to train people early in life about health, to just in time translation support, to peer to peer systems. A couple key ideas that stood out are:
- Simple check lists for what to ask your doctor
- Simple global language for how to talk about health
- Retired healthcare professionals available for JIT translation
Give people a picture of their health – now and over time
There was a lot of energy around showing people the true state of their individual health. And, to help them know what the implications of their actions today might be on themselves in the future. A few ideas here:
- “Game-ify” health
- See my true health – show people their lung or heart age
- See my stats (relative to others)
- Visualization of my actions – like a retirement calculator that shows implications of today’s action on your future self
Provide information transparency
Help people know the details (and agendas) behind the information that they have access to. People should be able to make their own judgments about how to interpret their health info – not just take it at face value. A couple ideas here included:
- Yelp or Consumer Reports for health
- Show info source background
A few cool stand-alone ideas
- Community well-being competition
- Patients setting research agendas
- Videographic therapy for Alzheimer’s
- Consistent billing templates
- Standard healthcare information systems
